12 October: Vanishing Homeland in the Bayou

An island in the state of Louisiana, the Isle de Jean Charles, is about to vanish due to rising water levels, land erosion and environmental disasters caused by the oil industry.

The island is home to a state-recognized tribe of Biloxi-Chitimacha- Choctaw Indians, made the first American climate refugees when the US government admitted them to be a victim of global warming. The promise of funding and re-settlement has been slow to materialise however as we find out in this week’s programme.

Don't miss this documentary, Thursday at 22.30 on TG4.

Vanishing Homeland in the Bayou will repeat Tuesday 17th October at 00.30 and will be available to watch on the TG4.ie player for up to 30days after first broadcast.
