The film is adapted from the recently published book The Queen v Patrick O’Donnell written by Seán Ó Cuirreáin about the fate of the quiet-spoken Donegal man who killed the infamous informer James Carey on board a ship off the coast of South Africa in 1883.
The film premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh last week and so far, has been short-listed for an award or selected for the following international film festivals:
Although the story is that of a simple labourer from Gaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal, it also has strong national and international dimensions as the story unfolds in the United States, South Africa and Britain.
The film 's actors deserve special recognition, especially Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde, Stephen Jones, Brídín Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh and Sophie Campbell in the lead roles.
The core crew included Mary Crumlish as editor, Burschi Wojnar as director of photography, Margot Cullen as designer, Kate Howard as costume designer and Jim Corr as first assistant director.
